A Curious Whim makes curious and whimsical, collectable animals, which have been carefully designed to look old and worn.
My vintage style animals resemble well-loved toys from a curious past. Inspiration comes from fairy tales, children's literature, nursery rhymes and the Victorian circus. I use the highest quality materials including German mohair, German viscose, Alacantra Ultrasuede, faux cashmere, English glass eyes and safety polyester filling. I incorporate traditional cotter pin joints, steel shot and vintage threads and fabrics. Every creation comes with an individual name and date of birth. All animals are jointed and Curious Creature Dolls feature polymer clay feet.
Made to a high spec in my UK studio, my artist bears are sold under the brand names A Curious Whim and Ragtail n Tickle both established in 2012. Designs are available from retailers in the UK and Japan. New work by A Curious Whim is sometimes available to purchase at acuriouswhim.etsy.com. Contact me for commissions or if you would like an animal similar to one in the gallery. All designs can be made to your choice of size/fabric with customised accessories.
All designs are intended as collectors pieces. Small parts make them unsuitable as children's toys.
